Zendaya doesn’t think she can be a pop star | Entertainment

Zendaya doesn’t think she can handle the life of a pop star.

The Spider-Man star insisted on staying in Hollywood, which still gives her a “level of anonymity” that she believes she won’t have if she decides to make music her career.

Speaking to Andrew Garfield for Variety’s Actors on Actors, she said, “I was talking to Sam. [Levinson] about it earlier. I thought I didn’t know if I could ever be a pop star.

“That’s because as an actor I have to have a certain level of anonymity, which I really enjoy.

“And I can sort my stuff, whatever it is, through the character, and no one needs to know about it.”

She noted that when it comes to music, “it’s all you all the time”.

She added: “While in other forms and other environments, it is all the time you.

“I like the idea that someone else, meaning Ryu [from Euphoria]take on this case and I can [have] borders. Learn what is for me.”

The 25-year-old actress has experience as a pop star. She first worked on covers, including Katy Perry’s “Hot n Cold” with Kidz Bop in 2009, and then made her television debut as a teenager on the Disney Channel series Shake. It Up”, on which she released tracks such as “Something to Dance For” and “Fashion Is My Kryptonite”.

She released the hit single “Replay” in 2013, followed by her self-titled debut album the same year, and in 2016 she released “Something New” with Chris Brown.

Although she has released songs as part of soundtracks for films such as The Greatest Showman, Euphoria and Smallfoot, she seems happier to focus on acting.

She previously explained, “Acting allows people to fall in love with a character, but also with my own anonymity and my own life, which music really can’t afford.

“So, another thing that scared me about music is that I can’t have that much life.”

She added, “To be honest, I intentionally left music because of bad contracts. The music industry is very different – it’s very different from the film and theater world.”
