Tom Cruise’s actual flight technique has been called “terrifying” by James Corden.
The 59-year-old ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor was also called an ‘absolute bastard’ by the 43-year-old ‘Late Late Show’ host for flipping him upside down in a fighter jet after Tom convinced the host to join him on two planes from Hollywood Burbank Airport.
James, who shares three children with his 43-year-old wife Julia Carey, said of the first ship built in 1944, “Even that’s terrible.”
Tom, who has been a pilot since 1994, warned him before takeoff that he would have to “roll over” and “slap” or “throw” him out of the plane if his single engine caught fire.
Speaking in a sketch for his talk show for the release of Top Gun: Maverick, actor James said, “Are you kidding?
He also told Tom, “But you’re not a pilot, you’re an actor… you also played a lawyer in A Few Good Guys, but I wouldn’t want you to represent me in court.”
Corden moaned that there was no Wi-Fi as they took off after a lesson on how to open his parachute.
He said as they landed after their 5am flight, “The fact that this is your idea of a fun day just tells me how different people we are.”
Tom then talked about his star pilot Gavin & Stacey’s plans for a jet fighter for the afternoon as part of Top Gun Training.
He told the host that he would be his “Goose” before Corden referenced the death of the wingman Cruz from the original Top Gun movie, replying, “When you say I’m your Goose, I feel excited, and then I realize that Goose dies at the end of the film.
After a night of camping in the desert and a game of Top Gun volleyball, Tom took James aboard a fighter jet.
The actor sat down a few feet from the trees and flew between the crevices of the rocks.
As he went “upside down”, Corden exclaimed, “You absolute bastards.”
Before takeoff, the host told “Cocktail” to actor Cruise, “If you kill me tomorrow, I’ll haunt you.”
Cruz replied, “If I kill you tomorrow, I’ll die too.”
The couple previously skydived to promote the Mission: Impossible actor’s franchise.
