The MTV Movie & TV Awards return on Sunday; “Spider-Man” leads the way in names | entertainment news

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The MTV Movie & TV Awards return Sunday with a live show where Spider-Man: No Way Home could win multiple trophies.

The 2021 sensation enters the show as the main nominee with seven. No Way Home, earning nearly $1.9 billion at the box office, it became the highest-grossing film of the year and a fan favorite, although it was largely overlooked at major award ceremonies.

A celebration of MTV movies and TV shows is a lighter and fresher show. This year’s host will be Vanessa Hudgens, and the show will air live from the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California starting at 8:00 pm ET on MTV, BET, Comedy Central, VH1 and other Paramount networks.

Jack Black will receive the Comic Genius Award, and Jennifer Lopez will receive this year’s Generation Award, which recognizes actors whose diverse contributions to film and television have made them household names.

The HBO series Euphoria has six nominations, while The Batman has four. A total of 26 gender-neutral awards will be presented over the two-hour show.
