The Government of Rajasthan has given the tourism and hospitality sector industry status

The government of Rajasthan on Saturday granted industry status to the tourism and hospitality sector in the state.

Urban Housing and Local Government Minister Shanti Dhariwal issued a notice on Saturday, according to an official statement.

In a budget announcement in February, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the tourism and hospitality sector would be given industry status.

The tourism sector in the state, as elsewhere in the country and the world, has been hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic.

“This state government announcement will greatly benefit the sector,” the statement released on Saturday said.

Granting industry status means that electricity rates and some other taxes levied on tourism and hospitality operators will be the same as other industries, rather than at much higher commercial rates.

Gehlot said during the budget announcement that these concessions would impose a financial burden of Rs 700 crore per year on the state treasury.
