Roanoke Ballet Theater to present Snow White at Jefferson Center

ROANOK, Virginia. (WDBJ) – Artistic director Rolando Sarabia says Roanoke Ballet Theater’s production of Snow White is not based on a classic storybook, but on the version you see in the film.

“I was inspired by the original Disney movie. It is very beautiful,” says Sarabia.

Sarabia has several roles in this production: director, choreographer and the role of the prince.

“I’m interested in presenting something different, something new for the Roanoke Ballet Theatre, this is actually the first time I’m staging something big,” says Sarabia.

19 professional dancers and 48 kids from the Roanoke Ballet Theater will bring the show to life this weekend at the Jefferson Center.

And the schedule of dancers is very tight.

“This is what we do every day. We have to wake up at 8:30 in the morning and go to the gym a little. As a dancer, it’s good to keep fit, and then you come here and we have an hour and a half session,” says Sarabia.

He hopes that their hard work and dedication will pay off with a show that will appeal to a wide audience.

“Beautiful music. Beautiful dancers. Beautiful costumes,” he says.

And Sarabia sums up the RBT experience: “We train. You are enjoying.”

“Snow White” will take the stage at the Shaftman Performance Hall at the Jefferson Center.

Shows are on Friday, June 10 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, June 11 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

RBT is also hosting a SNOW WHITE PARTY after the Saturday afternoon show. Each child who participates will also receive a coupon for one free session at the Roanoke Ballet Theatre. Click here for more details.
