ZANESVILLE – Five Putnam businesses are teaming up to create a local entertainment center.
Weasel Boy Brewing Company, Pea Ohana Watersports, Muddy Misers, Girl UPcycled Studio and BunkoJess Gallery have teamed up to create the Putnam Entertainment District.
Participating businesses – all local – are located on Muskingum Avenue behind Restoration Park. The owners hope it will draw attention to the historic district for dining, drinking and shopping.
Girl UPcycled offers a boutique with original artwork, artist supplies, and opportunities for private art parties. The newly opened BunkoJess Gallery features art creations for sale and a monthly running art and music space.
In terms of drinks and restaurants, Weasel Boy offers signature pizzas and award-winning craft beers. Muddy Misers has a homemade menu and a full bar.
“Most of our city has long overlooked Putnam as a great place to work and play,” Weasel Boy owner Jay Vince said in a press release. “DORA came to the area last fall and allowed for more hiking in our area, so it was a natural next step to create this area.”
DORA: Specialized outdoor recreation area now open all year round
Muskingum Avenue is part of the Zanesville Dedicated Food Service Area (DORA). It is a marked outer boundary drawn by the city where people of legal age can walk the sidewalk with their alcoholic beverages, and it extends through most of downtown and into Putnam at Muskingum Avenue.
Both Muddy Misers and Weasel Boy have an outdoor patio overlooking the Muskingum River, but visitors also have the option to get closer to the waterway. Pea Ohana Watersports offers tubing and kayak tours on the Muskingum and Licking Rivers.
“When people think of the Putnam entertainment district, they think of a destination—a place to go or vacation right here in Muskingum County,” said Pea Ohana owner Bear Davis.
