Lauren Jauregui believes that too many “emotionally immature men” are in power in the US.
The 25-year-old pop star took to social media to call on Americans to stop police after her mother was handcuffed for breaking into a school in Uvalde, Texas to save her children during a recent shooting.
In response to the news clip, Lauren tweeted: “Another on the list of endless reasons why we need to defund the police (abolish them) and invest our tax dollars in community care. (sic in the original)”.
The singer, who rose to fame as a member of Fifth Harmony, called on her followers to unite to help instigate change.
She wrote on the microblogging platform, “Just a quick reminder that power is in the hands of the collective, we just need to collectively decide that we want something and mobilize/organize for it.
“Emotionally immature men should stop holding leadership positions (sic).”
Lauren frequently uses Twitter and Instagram to speak her mind on political and social issues.
And the pop star has previously insisted she won’t change her lifestyle, arguing that more celebrities should talk about what they really believe.
She explained, “I think it’s a mistake to separate a person who lives in the country I live in from an artist. I think it’s even more important for me to be a politician because I have a voice that speaks to people sometimes. beyond even what politics can do.
“So if I have this power, this privilege that has been given to me, I’m not going to waste it pretending that I only care about superficial things. Because it’s not.”
