Kerala colleges to set up tourism clubs

Thiruvananthapuram, 10 June. /TASS/: As part of an initiative to ensure the active participation of students in the development of sustainable and inclusive tourism, Kerala on Thursday unveiled a new project to establish “tourist clubs” on major college campuses across the state.

The collective step of the Departments of Tourism and Higher Education, Minister of Tourism P.A. Mohamed Riyas and Minister of Higher Education Dr. R. Bindu said that these clubs will be established in 25 colleges in the state.

At the first stage, these clubs will be responsible for the maintenance of 25 tourist destinations and ensure the hygiene of each facility.

“The plan also includes identifying future tourism professionals among students who can also help promote destinations through social media platforms. There are good bloggers among the students and their talent can be used to present the state’s tourist attractions to a wider audience,” Riyas said. .

Young people can also work as part-time tourism guides, and there will be cultural events and workshops to hone their skills.

Dr. Bindu said that this initiative will encourage students to identify new tourism products and contribute to the growth of the tourism sector, in addition to increasing students’ interest in travel and tourism.

Also, campus clubs will help students understand the tastes and needs of tourists of that time.

Each club will have no more than 50 members. A calendar of events that they will take up this year will be published. Clubs with outstanding results will be considered for awards.
