Hilary Duff loved the “aftermath” of her home birth.
The 34-year-old actress, who has Luca, 10, with ex-husband Mike Comrie, as well as Banks, 3, and May, 14 months, with Matthew Koma, opted for a water birth at home for her two youngest children and Hilary believes that it is “one of the best things” she has ever done.
She explained, “My friend decided to give birth at home and as soon as she told me I was speechless. I didn’t think it was doable.
“With Luca, I had a classic natural birth in the hospital with all the necessary medications. I waited for many years before I had Banks. I gave birth to her at 31 and I like to challenge myself, to face something that scares me. doing research, watching documentaries.
“Giving birth is a different experience for every woman and I wanted to try this practice. With the support of my husband, I did this and it was one of the best things I have ever done in my life.”
Hilary enjoyed being at home and “surrounded by family” after giving birth.
The ‘Wake Up’ creator told Grazia magazine: “Obviously it’s difficult and there are some awkward moments, but the consequences are beautiful: being in your own home surrounded by family, with other kids ready to welcome a newborn. When I had Mei, in the midst of a pandemic, I still wasn’t going to go anywhere near the hospital.”
Hilary originally wanted Luka and Banks to witness their sister’s birth, but her plans never came to fruition.
She said, “May left so quickly that they managed to enter when their little sister was already in my arms. It was a very pleasant moment. Then Luca came and sat next to Me and me and said, “Mom, we should sing happy birthday to her. It’s her birthday.”
