Emirates News Agency – Dubai Sustainable Tourism celebrates green initiatives on World Environment Day

DUBAI, 5th June, 2022 (WAM) — Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST), part of the Dubai Economy and Tourism Department (DET), has celebrated sustainable practices across the city in commemoration of the 50th World Environment Day, aiming to further enhance Dubai’s position as a leading sustainable destination.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, DET sheds light on 50 of the city’s pioneering initiatives in environmental conservation and the sustainable development of the tourism ecosystem, from desert reserves to sustainable restaurateurs and eco-hotels, cultural events and ecotourism attractions. , which was created by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as “a global platform for inspiring positive change”.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and is the United Nations’ primary vehicle for raising awareness and taking action to protect the environment.

The #OnlyOneEarth World Environment Day 2022 campaign calls for collective transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet.

Conservation and Nature Initiatives Dubai’s unique ecosystem has provided generations with sustainable conservation and a special connection to nature. City hotels are currently implementing a number of sustainability requirements set by DST as part of an ongoing effort to position the city as a leading sustainable destination.
