DAYTONA BEACH, Florida. – The police broke into the Daytona Beach beach fun area.
The City Commission approved the creation of a substation by the police department near Seabreeze Boulevard. It will pass near the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Glenview Boulevard. The hope is to slow the rise in crime in the area.

Whether it’s rowdy crowds or nighttime crimes sweeping the area, residents of the Seabreeze Historic District are relieved to hear the police are closing in on them.
“Run stop signs, drive through yards just trying to get into the entertainment area,” said resident Anita Gallentine. “You have to make sure your doors are locked. Make sure you keep an eye out for whoever might be lurking near your property.”
The new police station will be located near the bars and clubs on Seabreeze Boulevard.
“More patrol units and more officers in our area always gives us a little more peace of mind,” Gallentine said.
City commissioners hope this will make it a safer place, pointing to a surge in recent years of crimes such as assaults, fights and robberies, which often spill over into a residential area.
Back in March, police said the couple were randomly attacked and killed during Bike Week, just one street from Seabreeze.

“As a business owner and other business owners, I know foot patrols have been requested for years,” said Rick Kitt.
Kitt owns several bars and restaurants on the entertainment strip.
Since last week, bars in the city are also required to close an hour earlier, at 2am instead of 3am. Kitt hopes the police will see where the problems really come from once they’re there.
“Let them see that all the problems here start with people hanging around the streets, and not because of people in bars and restaurants,” he said.
