Costa Rica Tourism Institute Tries to Attract Adventure Tourists – English Version

One of the characteristics of tourists visiting Costa Rica is the number and variety of activities they undertake during their stay at their destination.

Through the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto, Canada, the Institute of Tourism of Costa Rica (ICT) is working to promote Costa Rica as an adventure tourism destination.

Canada is the second most important North American market for Costa Rica, according to ICT estimates, and adventure tourism is the third reason to visit the country. In this regard, promotion and attraction of this profile of tourists is of great importance for the institution.

The Institute focused on showcasing the variety of adventure activities and nature experiences that can be had in Costa Rica through its participation in the Outdoor Adventure Show (OAS) at the International Center in Toronto, Canada. OAS is Canada’s largest consumer trade show, bringing together buyers and sellers of outdoor products and services.

“Canada is the second country that attracts more tourists to Costa Rica after the United States. In 2019, it facilitated the arrival of 234,621 tourists, and in the first three months of this year, 61,349 Canadians were reported to arrive by air, so it is important to promote yourself and offer reliable information about the destination and its attractions, coinciding with an increase in the desire to travel and have contact with adventure and nature that Canadians love so much,” said Iret Rodriguez, Head of ICT Promotion.

Adventure tourism in priority

ICT data shows that prior to the pandemic, at least 62% of the reasons for visiting Costa Rica were adventurous, making it the third most important category for the country. Activities promoted by adventure tourism include canopy, mountain biking, surfing, hiking, tubing and rafting, suspension bridges, canyoning, horseback riding, snorkeling and diving, and kayaking.

From Canada, Air Canada, Air Transat, Sunwing and WestJet fly to Juan Santamaria International Airport and Guanacaste Airport, from these cities. (https://thecostaricanews.com/costa-rican-tourism-institute-tries-to-attract-tourists-passionate-about-adventure/)
