Business to raise funds for Veterans Memorial Park | Entertainment

OSCODA – The Ocoda Company is hosting a fundraising event that they hope will help raise funds for the Ocoda Veterans Memorial Park.

Bravata’s Restorations, located at 5239 N US 23, will be hosting “Hot Rods & Heroes”, a fundraising event for the park and part of their Nostalgia Night Hangout which they host throughout the summer. The event is scheduled to start fundraising at noon, with the main event at 5:00 pm on May 28.

According to the organizer Jessica Bravata, there is no entry fee for the event, as well as for entering the vehicle.

“Ideally, our summer nostalgia nights are focused on classics, muscle, antiques and vintage, but we invited anyone who is respectfully proud of their car to this event because it is a local community fundraiser for Veterans Memorial Park.”

In addition, she said that the military vehicle from the park, several of which are on display, will be put on public display at the fundraising event.

Bravata said cars are allowed to line up an hour before the event starts at 5pm.

Part of the fundraising aspect of the event, which will give 100 percent of the money raised in the park, is an online auction that consists of items donated by a wide variety of local businesses, Bravata said.

“While this is a free event, we highly recommend making donations rather than charging for registration or viewers,” she said. “We accept cash donations and gifts starting at noon and throughout the evening event. A quiet online auction has begun, which will end in person on the evening of the auto show.”

The winners of each item will have until noon on May 31st to pay and arrange for pickup or delivery of their item. Not all items can be shipped and will be marked under the description in the album.

Bravata said he was Oscoda resident and veteran Bill Bickel, who endorsed the business of hosting an auto show and fundraising event for the park.

This event was originally planned to be part of our five summer nostalgia nights and we were approached by a gentleman named Bill Bickel – and I sent him this question so he could join!

“I have a long family history of military service,” Bickel said. “I wanted to find a way to help veterans in the area and boom! I meet Bravata and they have agreed to support Oscoda Veterans Park with proceeds and donations from the Hot Rods and Heroes event.

“We all want to make a lasting impression on the Oscoda community. The youth and those who have served need a permanent place to come and see those who have served to secure the freedoms we have today. I hope we will have a big turnout at this event. I know that Jessica and Jason have worked very hard to create this fantastic event. I hope to see you all there.”
